Yarn 1 x 1 3/4oz (50g) ball—approx 230yds (210m)—of Regia Silk 4-ply in shade 01 white Needles Pair of US 3 (3.00mm) knitting needles Extras Tapestry needle 31 1⁄2in (80cm) of 3/8-in (10-mm) wide silk or satin ribbon Size Newborn Actual size Overall length: 4 1/2in (11.5cm) Width: 2 1/4in (5.5cm) Gauge (tension) 30 sts and 50 rows to to 4in (10cm) over stockinette (stocking) stitch using US 3 (3.00mm) needles. Abbreviations See page 17 Pattern Mitten (make two) With US 3 (3.00mm) needles, cast on 41 sts. Knit 2 rows. Row 3 (RS): P1, to end. Row 4: K1, to end. Row 5: to last st, p1. Row 6: As row 4. Rep rows 3-6, 3 times more. Next row: K2, to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. 35 sts Next row: Purl. Next row (make eyelets): K2, to last st, k1. Starting with a purl row, work in stockinette (stocking) stitch (1 row knit, 1 row purl) until work measures 4 1/4in (10.5cm) from cast-on edge, ending with a purl row. Next row: K2, *sk2po, k1, rep from * to last 5 sts, sk2po, k2. 19 sts Next row: Purl. Next row: K1, to end. Cut yarn and thread through rem sts. To finish Pull end of yarn to draw up stitches, then stitch side seam. Weave in any loose ends neatly. Cut ribbon in half and thread through eyelets.
