LEO THE LION

This beanie has some stylized sections of fair isle to spice up an ordinary stripe pattern.

MATERIALS

w Aurora 8 - Karabella
   1 ball each of the following colors
   MC:  color 22
   CC1: color 190 
   CC2: color 26


w needles:  US 7 double pointed (set of 4)
w gauge: 5.5 sts per 1"

w sized to fit child to adult small

abbreviations:
k = knit
k2tog = knit two together
sts = stitches

INSTRUCTIONS

Work entire hat in stockinette stitch (knit every round)
With MC and US 7 needles, cast on 80 stitches, divide between 3 needles, join.

rounds 1 thru 8: using MC, k all sts
rounds 9 thru 12: using CC1, k all sts
rounds 13 thru 15: using CC2, k all sts
round 16: k all sts, follow Chart A
rounds 17 thru 19: using MC, k all sts
rounds 20 thru 27: using CC1, k all sts
round 28: k all sts, follow Chart B
rounds 29 thru 33: using CC2, k all sts
rounds 34 thru 37: using MC, k all sts
round 38: k all sts, follow Chart C
rounds 39 thru 41: using CC1, k all sts
round 42: using MC, k all sts

Using MC work decreases as follows:
round 43: *k6, k2tog.  repeat from * around
round 44: k all sts
round 45: *k5, k2tog.  repeat from * around
round 46: k all sts
round 47: *k4, k2tog.  repeat from * around
round 48: k all sts
round 49: *k3, k2tog.  repeat from * around
round 50: k all sts
round 51: *k2, k2tog.  repeat from * around
round 52: k all sts
round 53: *k1, k2tog.  repeat from * around
round 54: k all sts
round 55: *k2tog.  repeat from * around
Cut yarn and pull through remaining
stitches to close.

Note on fair isle charts:
It doesn''t matter which
color you start with as
long as you work one
stitch with each color,
knit loose so that these
rounds will stretch with
the rest of the hat.

 

SEW RIM OF HAT

Fold the first 4 rounds over to the inside of the hat. (you can lightly press the seam with an iron before sewing or pin the edge in place)

With MC, whip stitch thru cast on row and the blue horizontal strand inside the hat, each stitch around.
