I have seen several people do the knit fish hat. I love the fact that you did a crochet version!

Like PaulasHook - I saw the knitted version and loved it. Thanks for converting it for us. I've wanted to make one for my grandson. Might even make one as a "Stuffed Fish" by closing its mouth.

This fish hat is too cute to ignore! I even like the suggestion to stuff it and turn it into a pillow. Keep up the great work!!

Hi There!
Thanks so much for the crochet pattern for the fish hat! I have a couple questions, however. I am having trouble understanding how to make the tail fins. When you "work across the other side of the foundation chain..." Do you go back around making an oval of sorts? It says there are 10 sc so I am assuming so. But then when we get to rnd 2, we chain 1, 2sc, sc until the last st, which is 2sc, do you then sl st? or continue to go in an oval -or- do you turn around. Also I don't really understand how to connect the two fins and start onto the hat.
Let me know asap.
Could you shoot me an email?

I have the same problem as the previous poster. The rest of the pattern looks straight forward, however the first row of the tailfin throws me off. Thanks so much for clarification!

I was at nursing home with mom today and started the hat but I have the same problem as Amanda and Crissy.

Thanks in advance for the help! My son is excited about this hat and wants five different fish hats in his five favorite colors!

I can't believe he is going to wear it to his university!

The first row is worked on both sides of the foundation chain. A chain stitch has 2 loops so you will do the first 5 sts in one side of the chain and the last 5 in the other side of the chain. It should make an oval with a closed bottom. You will then join with a slip stitch to the first sc ending with 10sc. I hope this helps.

THANK YOU for these directions!! I'm having a problem with the tail fins, when I finished the first fin (I haven't started on the 2nd one yet) it isn't flat, it made a cone. Is that right? If not, how do I get it flat? Thanks!

It will make a cone shape and you will smoosh it flat to look like the tail when the hat is done. :)
