This dishcloth is made in a fan shape, started in one corner and worked diagonally along two sides of the crocheted piece.

Abbreviations: ch = chain, dc = double crochet, ea = each, hdc = half double crochet, sc = single crochet, sp = space, st = stitch, sts = stitches, tr= treble
Materials: cotton worsted weight yarn, US size H hook

Pattern Notes: Rows are worked along two sides of the piece.
Starting Chain: Leaving a length to weave in later, chain 2.
Row 1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Row 2: ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, 2 sc in last sc.
Row 3: ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc, ch 1, sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc.
Row 4: ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, sc in ea of next 2 sc, ch 1, skip the ch-1 sp on row 3, sc in ea of next 2 sc, 2 sc in last sc.
Row 5: ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc, skip 2 sc, 5 dc in ch-1 sp, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc.
Row 6: ch 3, turn, dc in 2nd sc, 2 dc in next sc, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, 2 dc in next sc, dc in ea of next 2 sc.

Row 11: ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn, dc in 2nd sc, dc in ea sc until one sc remains before the 5-dc shell, 2 dc in next sc, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, 2 dc in next sc, dc in ea sc to the end of this side.
Row 12: ch 1, turn, sc in ea dc until you reach the ch-2 sp, 2 sc in ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next sc, 2 sc in ch-2 sp, sc in ea dc to the end of this side.
Row 13: ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn, dc in 2nd sc, dc in ea sc until you reach the ch-2 sp, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-2 sp, dc in ea sc to the end of this side.

Rows 16 - 18: Repeat Rows 10 - 12.
Outside Row: ch 1, then working down the side of the piece, sc in end of sc row, 2 sc around post of edge dc on next row. continue in this manner, with an sc in the end of ea sc row and 2 sc around the post of edge dc on ea dc row. At corner, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner, then work next side in same manner as first Outside Row side. When you reach the end of this second side, continue with the Top Edging instructions.
Top Edging: ch 1, sl st in first sc on top row, * sc in next sc, skip next 2 sc, (2 dc, ch 1, tr, ch 1, 2 dc) all in next sc, skip next 2 sc **, repeat the directions between * and ** two more times, then sc in next sc, skip to the corner ch-2 and make (2 dc, ch 1, tr, ch 1, 2 dc) all in the ch-2 corner sp, skip next 2 sc, then repeat the directions between * and ** three times, then sc in next sc,
Outside Row 2: ch 2 for corner, sc in ea sc along next side, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner, then sc in ea sc along second side until one sc remains unworked, then ch 3, 2 dc in last sc on this side, skip sl st on top edge, sl st in first sc that was made in the Top Edging (which is the sc right before the first dc/tr shell group).
End off, leaving a length to weave in. Weave in ends securely, weaving back and forth several times on the back, working under back part of a number of stitches so that the ends will not unravel over time.
