Materials:

Jamie pompadour yarn, about an ounce or less
[This pattern is made especially for Jamie Pompadour (any baby weight,
or baby sport weight will work, too)]
Size F hook
Some white ribbon

Cluster:
Yarn over twice, insert hook into the stitch or space indicated, pull up a loop, yarn over and through 2 loops twice.  Repeat two more times, and yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook.

Beginning cluster:

Chain 3, yarn over twice, insert hook into the stitch or space indicated, pull up a loop, yarn over and through 2 loops twice.  Repeat two more times, and yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook.

Round 1-  Chain 4, in 4th chain from hook:  yarn over twice, insert hook into the stitch or space indicated, pull up a loop, yarn over and through 2 loops twice.  Repeat two more times, and yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook (first cluster made.)  Chain 2, (make a cluster, chain 2) 7 times, slip stitch into the top of first cluster.  8 clusters and 8 chain 2 spaces.

Round 2-  Slip stitch to first space, chain 1, 3 single crochets in same space.  Work:  Single crochet in top of each cluster and 3 single crochets in each chain 2 space.  Slip stitch on top of first single crochet.

Round 3-  Make a beginning cluster, skip one single crochet, chain 1,make a cluster.  Work:  Cluster, chain one, skip next single crochet all around. Join with a slip stitch on top of first cluster.  16 clusters and 16 chain 1 spaces.

Round 4-  Chain 1, single crochet in same stitch, continue working 2 single crochets in each space and 1 single crochet on top of each cluster.

Round 5-  Single crochet in each single crochet.

Round 6-  Chain 4 (counts as first double crochet and chain 1 space).  Work (Skip a stitch, double crochet in next single crochet chain 1) all around.  Don''t worry if you''re missing a stitch.  Just join on top of the first double crochet (the chain 3 at the beginning).  This is the eyelet round.

Round 7-  Chain 1.  Single crochet in each stitch and in each space all around.  Cut off your yarn and weave in the ends.

Take some yarn and weave through the eyelet round, cut off, leaving  enough to make a bow.  The ribbon substitutes the elastic ponytail holder. Also, instead of white, you can use different color ribbon, which makes a nice contrast. :o)
