Crocheted Hand Sanitizer Key Chain Holder

Paula Amnott Lamm
Protect yourself or your kids as you send them off to school with a readily available bottle of hand sanitizer. The Center for Disease Control has stated that alcohol-based hand sanitizer is effective against the
H1N1 (swine) flu virus. This holder will keep a 2 ounce bottle of hand sanitizer on your key chain, or you can hook it to a zipper of a back pack or book bag.

When made in school colors, this holder makes a great gift for teachers, too!

Materials:

Small amount of worsted weight yarn in 2 colors - Main color (MC) and contrasting color (CC)
Hook size: 5.50 mm (I)
Yarn needle
Split metal key ring or lanyard hook
2 oz. bottle of hand sanitizer

Instructions:

With MC, ch6, turn

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 5 sc. Ch 1, turn.

Rows 2 & 3: Sc in each st across - 5 sc. Ch 1, turn

Begin working in rounds

Round 1: Cc in each st across (5 sc). At end of row, work one sc in ends of the 3 rows (3 sc). Work 1 sc in each bottom loop of beginning ch (5 sc). Work 1 sc in other end of 3 rows (3 sc). You've now worked 16 sc all around the base rectangle. Put stitch marker in beginning stitch. DO NOT join!

Rounds 2 - 6: Continue working in MC for 5 more rounds (6 rounds total). As you begin a new round, move stitch marker in beginning stitch.

Rounds 7 & 8: Switch to CC, complete 2 rounds.

Rounds 9 & 10: Switch to MC, complete 2 more rounds. At end of Round 10, join with a sl st to beginning stitch of last round.

Round 11: Ch 6, sl st into same sc (forms key ring loop). Sl st in next 3 st. Ch 10, sl st into next st. Sl st into next 7 st. Ch 10, sl st into next st. Sl st into next 3 st. Sl st into 1st sl st, finish off, use yarn needle weave in ends.

Slip ch 6 loop on side onto metal key ring or lanyard hook.

Slide 2 oz hand sanitizer bottle into holder, slip ch 10 loops onto neck of bottle.

The CDC has determined that use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers can help prevent the spread of the H1N1 (swine) flu virus.
